Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a sleeping disorder that happens when the soft tissue in the back of our throats collapses or closes up causing a blockage in the airway. This blockage of our airways is all too often the cause of sleep depravation, an increase in traffic accidents, on the job accidents and even death.
Those of us who have OSA often think that we sleep well and do not realize the extent of our problems until they are brought to our attention by a spouse or close friend.
The common tell tale signs of obstructive and central sleep apneas include:
During the daytime you fall asleep or you are tired all day.
Excessively loud snoring, loud gasps for air.
Moments where you’re breathing stops while asleep.
Shortness of breath when you wake up.
You wake up with a dry mouth or a sore throat
High blood pressure
Depression
Problem with excess weight
Waking up with a morning-time headache
Nighttime chest pain
Lack of focus
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms then it’s time to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
